I am participating in a group exhibit that is featuring aspects of the Mad River. I took this image last night. The overcast parted for a short while, and I decided to take advantage of the opportunity.

ONE ROOM SCHOOLS

BUCK MOUNTAIN SCHOOL, JULY 2012

This image is a composite of three images. I processed this using Hal's Poor-man's HDR technique. The school is actually leaning more than this, but it looked unnatural in the orientation in which it actually sits.

I am working more and more with this method of expanding the dynamic range of my images. I am quite excited about applying these techniques to some images from the forest that I have studied for years. 

A LITTLE MORE OF EUREKA

I first saw this photograph several days before I took it. In fact, I almost missed it again as I was driving home from photographing. I hand-held the camera for this one. I do so much appreciate image stabilization for times like this.

Here is another image from my outing two days ago. I was and am still, drawn to the simplicity of the composition, and the limited color palette.This is a combination of three images. I did so in order to expand the dynamic range.

EMPTY PARKING LOT AT THE CO-OP

I took this photograph yesterday morning. I had been photographing for at least an hour, and just by chance recalled that I always wanted a photograph of the Co-Op. I never thought that I would find the lot empty, and the lighting "just right".

This is a composite of three images processed in Photoshop as HDR. I then worked the  merged image in Lightroom.

I finally went out photographing. I worked the extreme west end of downtown this morning at about five. I did not do anything to this image yet, but I think it has potential. I will re-post it after I work on it.

I probably shared this image before - I just thought that I should put something up!

I have works at several locations for Arts Alive tomorrow evening. I have half a dozen photographs downstairs in the Morris Graves, two works at the RAA Gallery, and a couple of pieces at the Hagopian Gallery inside the main Library.

Hopefully I will see some of you tomorrow evening.

This photograph is one that I thought was a good one, but the more I look at it, the less I think of it. I do not know if it is worthy. I have shown it, and I do not think anyone has given me any feedback.

There are multiple reasons for the name of this tree. Perhaps if you look closely you will see one or two of them. I took this image in 2010.

I am taking a break from photographing. I did not plan on not doing, but it is just happening. Instead, I am building a garden fence, and I am working in the garden. I am still conducting RAA business, and tending to the gallery.

A REWORKED PHOTOGRAPH

I do not recall if I shared this image in this blog before now. I reworked it in Lightroom 4, and I am happier with the tonal values - especially in the shadows.

I don't know if you can see the differences on screen, but in print they show up.

At the point I am at as an artist, mostly dealing with subtitles. I find that the difference between a good photo and a great photo can be found in the small but important details in color, tone, and composition.

THIKSEY GOMPA

WINDOWS, THIKSEY GOMPA, LADAKH, 2008

This is a composition that I created with my camera while I was on a walking meditation. I was staying at the monastery, and it was evening time. I was free to wander around at my leisure. Everyone pretty much left me on my own, and so I was able to soak up the energy of that place.

Thiksey is right at an elevation of 11,000'. I was comfortable at that elevation, and so I was able to focus my attention on the essence of being.

 As this photograph shows, the monastery is located on a hill. My experience is that most of the Gompas in Ladakh are sited such as this one.

I am gaining a tremendous amount of insight on how to work images. I fully appreciate the critiques at The Redwood Camera Club's meetings. I am learning from my associations with other photographers and friends.

The image above is one that I shared here before. I just finished making some changes to it, and I think it is now stronger than before.
